Built for Young Learners.
Designed for Real Results.
The Junior Intensive English Programme (JIEP) is GL Academy's full-day English course for children and young learners aged 5 and above. Students don't just learn English as a subject — they learn to use it for communication, classroom participation, reading comprehension, writing, presentations, and critical thinking.
By combining language learning with academic elements, JIEP prepares students for the demands of international school settings and future global opportunities. Every child is assessed on enrolment, placed at the right CEFR level, and progresses in a class of no more than 6 students.
This programme is for:
- Students preparing to enter an international school
- Junior learners who want to improve their overall English proficiency
- Families relocating abroad who need their child to be school-ready
- Students who need stronger academic English for reading, writing, and presentations
Max 6 Students Per Class
Stricter than our adult programme — because children need even more individual attention, encouragement, and feedback from their teacher.
Native-Speaking Trainers
Children absorb natural pronunciation, rhythm, and expression from trained native English educators from the very first day.
CEFR-Tracked Progress
Every child progresses through internationally recognised CEFR levels. Parents receive regular written reports so progress is never a guess.
Oxford-Based Curriculum
JIEP uses Oxford University Press materials — globally trusted, academically rigorous, and specifically designed for young learners.

A Full Day of
Purposeful Learning.
Every JIEP day follows the same predictable routine — structured enough to build consistency, varied enough to keep children engaged from morning to afternoon.
✍️ Writing & Grammar
The morning session opens with structured writing and grammar — new language introduced in context, with guided practice building accuracy from the very first hour.
🍎 Brain Break & Snack Time
A supervised break with snacks. Children re-energise before the next learning block.
📖 Reading Adventure
Students read age-appropriate texts — fiction, non-fiction, and academic — followed by guided comprehension and vocabulary activities. The exact texts match the child's CEFR level.
🍱 Lunch & Play Time
Lunch and free play — an important part of the day where children socialise naturally in an English-speaking environment.
🎧 Active Listening
Structured listening tasks using authentic audio and video — exposing students to natural English speech rhythms, accents, and real communication patterns.
⚡ Energy Boost Break
A short afternoon break to recharge before the day's final — and most expressive — session.
🗣️ Confident Speaking
The most dynamic part of the day — drama, roleplay, debates, storytelling, and presentations. Everything learned that day is used out loud in real interaction, so it sticks.
Proudly Partnered
with Oxford University Press.

Both series are used in top international schools across Asia and Europe. At GL Academy, they are taught by qualified, native-speaking educators — not just followed as a workbook.

Four Skills. Every Day.
One Confident Child.
JIEP builds all four internationally assessed language skills — plus the academic and communicative skills that international schools look for.
Writing & Grammar
From guided sentences to structured academic essays — every student writes daily with direct teacher feedback on accuracy, structure, and style.
Reading & Comprehension
Age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction at the right CEFR level — building vocabulary, inference, and critical reading skills that international schools assess at entry.
Listening
Authentic audio and video expose students to real English speech rhythms, accents, and communication patterns — so classroom English transfers to real life.
Speaking & Fluency
Drama, debates, presentations, and roleplay activities every afternoon — language learned in the morning is practised out loud so it sticks and becomes natural.
Academic & Critical Thinking
JIEP goes beyond basic English — students learn to form arguments, support ideas with evidence, and communicate in the academic register that international schools demand.
GL Academy Certificate
Upon completing each level, every student receives an official GL Academy Certificate of Completion — recognition of their progress and a record of their CEFR achievement.
Frequently Asked
Questions.
JIEP accepts students from age 5 and above. There is no minimum English level — complete beginners are very welcome and start at the Beginner level (CEFR A0–A1). Every child sits a free placement assessment before their first day so they are placed correctly, not arbitrarily.
All JIEP classes are led by native English-speaking educators. Our teachers are not simply fluent speakers — they are trained educators who understand child development, language acquisition, and how to build genuine confidence in young learners. At GL Academy, we select our JIEP teachers based on their ability to build rapport with children, adapt to individual learning styles, and make every student feel genuinely supported in the classroom. Your child will know their teacher's name, and their teacher will know theirs.
Both programmes follow the same CEFR framework and full-day structure, but JIEP uses Oxford University Press materials specifically designed for young learners — Oxford Discover and Let's Go — alongside age-appropriate teaching methods, activities, and pacing. JIEP has a stricter class cap of maximum 6 students, and children are never placed in adult classes.
Every new student completes a free placement assessment before enrolment. This is a short, age-appropriate evaluation covering reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Based on the results, we place your child at the correct GL Academy level — Beginner through Advanced — and explain clearly what that means and what the path forward looks like.
Yes — and it has, for many of our students. The international schools listed on this page are ones our graduates have successfully enrolled in. JIEP focuses specifically on the reading comprehension, written English, listening, and speaking skills that international school admissions assessments test. If your child has a specific school or intake deadline, tell us at enrolment and we will align their study plan accordingly.
Absolutely. Preparation for family relocation is one of JIEP's core purposes. The full-day, Monday–Friday structure produces rapid, measurable progress. If you have a target departure date or school intake, share that with us — we will build a focused programme around your timeline and your child's current level.
We strongly encourage parents to speak directly with their child's teacher — any day, at pick-up time. We believe the most valuable feedback happens in a real conversation, not just a written report. That said, every student also receives a formal written progress report at the end of each CEFR level, so you always have a clear record of where your child stands and what comes next.
More than okay. We welcome complete beginners and have a proven process for bringing them along from zero. Children who start at the Beginner level begin with the Oxford Let's Go series — a phonics-first, play-based approach specifically designed for absolute beginners. Some of our most inspiring student transformations started with a child who couldn't say "hello" in English on day one.
Give Your Child the English
They Deserve.
The first step is a free placement assessment — no pressure, no commitment. We will show you exactly where your child is, what level they need, and how JIEP gets them there.
